Antique Finds

Yesterday { Saturday} Tom was spending all morning and all afternoon at the golf course so I decided to get myself out of the house for awhile... Do something I enjoy. I took a short trip to Archbold, Ohio { just several miles north of us} to a nice antique shop located there. The Field of Memories.... The owner Larry told me he had been very, very ,busy the last couple days because the "hookers" were in town. I started to chuckle and tell me that wasn't very good for a Mennonite area and he grinned and said, oh you know the " rug hookers "... They were at the Sauder Museum which is located a arm's throw away. Anyway...... I did purchase a silver engraved compact with a chain handle... love my girly stuff.... that I just adore. I believe it to be quite lovely... I immediately placed a label inside with the value. Have been doing this with my beaded purses and better finds... It helps me remember what I have invested and also will help my daughter if anything would happen... Years past ...silver was a mark of status and wealth.. Compacts for powdering the nose at the turn of the twentieth century was a important part of daily life and glamour, so every women owned at least one compact... Some women had several compacts as they may have been presented to them from husbands or lovers... Collectible compacts are very popular today.
I also purchased a lovely vintage linen with a cherub and pretty lace,I will use for a window or frame it... Then 6 old photos that I plan to do altered art with... Decided a couple hours of the hunt was enough of a fix and came back home to what was becoming a very hot day...Our forecast is for a few days in the 90's....
Wishing you all a very pleasant Sunday.....

Hi Marietta,
Nice finds! Must have been something in the air. We were in Defiance yesterday (hubby wanted to go to the RC shop downtown) and I stopped in at Fort Defiance Antiques. First time I have been there since they moved. It is very nice. I found a little "baby ben" alarm clock to match the bigger version that I have. It is too cute! I was looking for old bottles and old jewelry to embellish them.

Try to stay cool today. I have a feeling our air will be on again.
Blessings~
