Aprons

I received this remembrance story on aprons from a friend and enjoyed it as it brought back memories....Thought you may enjoy it too and just the apron itself can show us how much our society and life are changing.... I don't think our kids know what a apron is. The Principal use of grandma's and mom's aprons for us older folk,a apron was used to protect the dress underneath, because the women only had a couple dresses to wear. It was easier to wash the apron than the dress. You see there weren't electric washer and dryers. Aprons were less expensive to make cause they used less material....along with it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the stove. That pocket always held a hankie for noses and tears... From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, and hide many a shy child when company may come.. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over a wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.. After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected guests came it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.. When dinner was ready, grandma walked out on the porch. waved her apron and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields for dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace the old-time apron that served so many purposes in a woman's life...

REMEMBER GRANDMA USE TO SET HER HOT BAKED PIES ON THE WINDOW SILL TO COOL..

IF AT ALL GRANDDAUGHTERS SET THEIR ON THE WINDOW SILL TO THAW.....
