I think this to be a process that develops over time... For my liking .. I usually try to stay with same colors { usually always pink roses} and mixing glass. I don't mind mixed- matched ... in fact I love it... I tend to stay away from all mixed colors and bold patterns, however I have seen cases where it seems to work. When viewing this.. my immediate thought is that I would not have been brave enough to do that.... If using for decoration the odd crack or chip only adds the feel of endurance.... but these pieces are not suitable for use..... You do not need allot of skills for developing a love for the re-use of old pieces... I think the biggest factor is the bargain factor. When displaying inherited pieces- make sure they are displayed in a safe area... I know my home is certainly not very child friendly... but we are past the toddler stage with the grandchildren and into the " big kid" stage which works better with allot of " stuff".

Beautiful vignettes! I too collect vintage porcelains for display and for use. I try to use most of my pieces but sometimes I find a damaged piece that is more for display. I don't know what it is about china and porcelian but I am always drawn to the beautiful patterns and shapes. I don't think that you and I could ever shop together as we would be going for the same things:).

love those old pieces--sure look like pre WWII German, which is one of my collecting passions! And they have pink roses too which are my faves!
