What Makes Us Change?

In my younger years.... I may not have seen beauty in a tarnished old mirror with heavy ghosting... a piece of china that time has added a hairline fracture or chip to.... now-a-days we have reproductions of these original pieces.... New items with hand-made defects... mercury glass made faux tarnished silver.... a poor man's silver... Are they telling us it isn't so bad to settle.... It seems the thing to have... tarnishing.... pitting....rusting.... crackling.... all a look of a test of time.... We love this look and adding luxurious within these objects... It seems as our bodies and mind age so do our choices... Through the years I have really become a different person.... The desire for what I thought to be so important is no longer there... Maybe like those tarnished old pieces... the true beauty of life finally surfaces.... I enjoy exquisite things and places but also find I can enjoy just as much.... a quiet ... peaceful... setting with a wonderful magazine or a project in my hand... In my younger years I would not thought this possible... I do believe your appetite for thinking you need the best of the best as you drive yourself does weaken... So many events take place taking you down a different road, due to loss, life, divorce, jobs... you begin to see things in very different way. I know I don't need a servant or other such needs to be able to pamper myself... I am capable of getting a plush towel for myself, taking a bath in fine toiletries... serving myself rich pastries... All these wonderful ways of enjoying is truly our frame of mind of which we hold the key.... We ourselves can make happiness. The surroundings we allow our self in.... If you have the desire to shoot for the moon.. remember to stop and enjoy along the way as the moon may not be as bright as we originally thought... Some of the tarnished moments will turn to be the best we may have, and you will find these moments become your cherished objects of happily ever after.... not necessarily what you were shooting for..
Try to cherish your moments even if they are working moments... remembering your wonderful objects and your special thoughts become a place of comfort for all seasons of our life. You have to have the WISDOM to enjoy them... I would not have thought happiness was so possible in such little places in my younger years... I was truly too busy running around trying to find it, to STOP and enjoy it... Maybe with aging God slows us down for a reason.......

Marietta,
Thank you for reminding us to slow down and savor each moment. I know I have a much greater respect for vintage items. I now shudder to think when I was younger I actually used old quilts to protect furniture, etc. when making a move. Hope your week is a good one. Vicki

Thanks Marietta, for sharing your heart and reminding me what is important. I had to take Bekah to the eye Dr. yeterday on your road. I found the Red Barn but they were closed! Never knew they were there and I've lived in this area all my life. That's all the farther down the raod I came since we only had a few minutes left to get to her appt. I think you told me you were farther down by the school. One of these days we will have to get together!

"As I get older my body slows down but not my mind nor my soul, it is eternal." That was a quote from my Great Grandpa at age 94. Now that I am aging, my mind still functions at full tilt but it just takes me longer to do what I once did. I do appreciate beauty now more than ever...tks for sharing such a lovely post...sharon

That is something we learn as we age, isn't it?
I love those sweet pillows you are making out of old linens...the thought of taking your sewing machine outside sounds heavenly!

Marietta -- so true -- I love the book the velveteen rabbit -- especially the part that says how you become real -- I so think it applies to people -- when the fur is worn off etc -- we become real -Inside -- not just the things the world deems important - Kathy - ga

How beautiful!
I do believe our attitude in life plays such a major part in our happiness and how we handle things, both good and bad.
I hope you have a lovely day.
