History Of The Christmas Tree

Along time ago, evergreens were thought to have mystical power since thye continued to flourish during the winter while others died or went dormant...The evergreen also symbolized a renewal of life. In the 16th century in Alsace, a region in Western Germany, the decorating of the Christmas tree started. In 1747, the first American Christmas tree was seen in a Germn settlement of Bethlehelm, Pennsylvania... CHRISTBAWM... christmas tree is a symbol of Christ... The tree was decorated with cookies , gingerbread and candy... The Christmas tree went up Christmas eve and was taken down Jan.5... Ornaments and choices of frsh or artificial trees differe greatly today. Christmas trees become visible from October through January in many homes. In 1880 F.W. I'm so enjoying your last few posts about history and other info about the holidays. You must do quite a bit of research. Thank you, dear one...

What a sweet vintage postcard you have posted. I have also noticed that many of us now have a Christmas tree in several rooms of our homes...not just the main living room of years ago. We usually place one in the living room on our main floor, another upstairs by a big picture window facing the road, and sometimes a 3rd tree placed on the backyard patio. A far cry from my childhood of one tree put up only a couple of days before Christmas. I'm a bit torn between the way we do things presently and the memories of my past Christmas experiences. I guess that is normal :)
