Ramblings

I was just enjoying pages of my " A Bit of Velvet and a Dash Of Lace" Robin Brown... I haven't looked at it for awhile and instantly fell in love with it all over again... I love the French touches of the Jeanne d Ark look but when I view Robin's overdone embellishments I also fall very deeply in love with the look... I so adore the feel of lace, fringes and tassels and the re-purpose of them. I also agree when Robin suggests not to be too attached to what others opinions are { although I love when someone loves what I do} as she says it is your life and you need to do it for yourself.. Add you own personality by embellishing, adorning, and adding the beauty to enhance your life. It is a perfect mix when you feel grandly elegant and cozy all at the same time... Robin uses tons of layering and I think this adds elegance but warmth. In the book she also stresses setting moods with lighting.. My personal best is the love of crystal and Victorian offering a soft glow.. I really don't care for overhead lighting only if working on a project required allot of light... Just love sitting in a warm glow... Wen you love many objects in order to keep bringing them into your home you may have to be willing to trade some off. I am finding myself at the place where I love many of the objects I already have and find myself on a tight budget and not bringing much into the home.. I may create some scrapping things or a pillow or so... as I do like to change things around for a different look... buying new furniture is not a option... as you age you realize this can become a large expense and you really just plain don't need it... You don't need as much... I thought when I was younger it was so important... it doesn't seem important at all anymore... Finding a discarded item or one for pennies is always a treat and if it doesn't work out it is a no guilt thing. I have noticed allot of trash look like little treasures when added to the garden space. Well. I am off to think of re-arranging objects... with my rules and making it my own... Have a wonderful day....

Oh Marietta...You hit the nail on the head for me!! First of all I have this book & I just adore it. I love the look!! I have a lot of furniture & other things that I inhereted from my Mom so I am not in the market for furniture. As for the upholstered furniture I cover them with vintage chenille & they are good to go!!
It is amazing how our needs & opinions change with age......
Enjoy the Day!

I was looking at her book too this past week. I always love what she does and retake on old things that she makes fresh again is always so inspiring. Her clothes that she designs are just works of art in themselves too. Have a great day enjoying what you like, T

You are so right it is fun to just discover and rearrange things you have. I tend to use the same colors in all my rooms so they can just move to another room when I am bored. And I love to find cheap treasures.

That is a wonderful book to look at. I have it too. Somehow I can't see John Brown watching football on those burnout velvet sofa's can you? Even if she does say he does. Have a great week. Charlene

I just popped over from French Larkspur to wish you "congratulations and have fun with the goodies that you won"! you have a lovely place here and I enjoyed reading your post. It is encouraging every time I hear the maxim to "be who YOU are" and don't try to be or decorate like anyone else. Even though we know this, hearing it is like a compass needle redirecting me.

By the way, I love the color brown with a touch of lace!

Love, Katy Noelle

That book sounds wonderful-I'll have to check it out:). I love her philosophy! I know that my home doesn't appeal to everybody but that doesn't bother me because we are happy with it and that's all that matters (I do confess that it is fun when people do like it:). Thanks for sharing this book title-I think I'll go to amazon.com and take a look!

Blessings,

Kim
