Thrift Store Lamp Redo

I just wanted to share with you this thrift store lamp redo... The base was sponged ... the tassel added.....and I saw on another blog some ribbons on a shade so I added the ribbons to the shade that came with the lamp... The lovely crinkled french ribbon was purchased from Pretty Petals .... The lamp was a 5.00 purchase... The ribbon is unexpected but does lend itself well with my other lamps as they are 2 beaded and 1 fringed in my living room... This is just one tie on top shade so can be changed out easily.. and ribbon used for another project....

Changing Living Room

I have moved my living room furniture around and now I am trying to make my vignettes match the room again.. When I first change things I am never sure I like it until I get myself use to it... I believe it to be especially hard when you combined households without buying new for the room like Tom and I have done.... I have some furniture that just doesn't work but I try to cover it .. I am trying to make two people happy here. I have seen alot of your lovely homes and some are so girly I often wonder where the husband goes for comfort.....I added a couple photos of a few places I feel comfortable with for a few weeks... Fall and Christmas is on it's way and then I start this all over again... Yikes

The view out the window is my big front bay window that I place items in and change out quite often.....

Good morning... I just wanted to post a note and tell you all I am going to take a brief couple day break from posting.... I have a couple projects that must be completed for others and I have some preserving to take care of from the garden and seems many others needs have creeped up on me and I am feeling overwhelmed and I don't care for that feeling..... I will be reading your blogs in the evenings however and will be back in a couple days to my own blog...... I am off to clean up the mess in the yard.... The coon have destroyed our lovely stand of early sweet corn ... we are trying to save the second batch but think it is in vain.... I just came in from the garden as I am working on freezer pickles right this hour... and not only are the coon feasting I just see the next batch is also invested with beatles..... I don't think I will be freezing our winter supply this year... Puts me in a bummer.....Ya all take care....

Visit

Yesterday morning we had a breakfast and alot of conversation with Tom's sisters and Aunt... We share many moments of happiness with them quite often... The picture above Tom was showing them how to play cards on the computer....Next weekend we will be joining them as Sister Rose Maria celebrates her 65th Jubilee of Profession with the Sisters Of Notre Dame...We will be enjoying a dinner for immediate family and then attend a special Mass at Gesu Church In Toledo....Sister Rose Maria came back from years of being in Rome...she has shared many stories with us about being in Rome... Her life has slowed as life has progressed but she still remains very active... I so enjoy talking and learning about their lives....Oh yes... they learn a few things about ours also... GULP...

Having Meeting for 50th Reunion

Well it is going to happen next year of October 9 & 10th ... I attended our first planning for our 50th class reunion to take place.. We are booking the hall and trying to take shape... Hard to believe we are planning now but need to get things rolling.... So far we know we are going to have a tailgate party and attend the high school football game as a unit.....this will be on Friday night ... then go to the Eagles and gather for a couple beverages and talk.... They will have karaoke.... On Saturday we will have a breakfast brunch and we are going through our old high school..... I will then go to the hall at the Elks and decorate..... I am looking for many ideas for the 50's... Anyone got a good one let me know..... PLEASE.... I will be working on things from now till then.... Then at the Elks we will have dinner served .... entertainment ... music and talk.... That is what we have so far..... I am hoping we will have a great turnout... We had 181 in our class Of Defiance High School 1959.....I am excited for it and want to do some great decorating and love all the time to put it together.....I will show you things as I work on them from time to time.....I don't believe there can be a greater treat given us than to spend time with old classmates and have memories come back that we have lost thoughts of...

Barn Sale

Saturday morning I went to a barn sale. I found a few goodies... The first pic is a wind chime made from a silver plate and silverware..... It does have some crystal beads on it.. I did give 10.00 for it.
The second pic is some jello molds... I thought it may be rather neat with crafting tid bits in it.... I only gave a 1.00 for it. Any ideas gals for another use for it?????
The third pic is a ceiling tile with a old bottle wired on it... I gave 2.50 for it...
The third is a old whisk... It will hold cards or photos but would still be cute on wall with a tag added... It was 1.00... Also got the sunbonnet linen dish towel for 1.00... I did get some other items I am going to give my daughter...
With my love for old and faded and chippy I find I can find little treats for under 5.00 and then the fun of coming home and deciding what to do with them... I usually try to give them a different life than what they were intented for......

Another Christmas Tree Theme

Good morning.... I have started on another theme for a small Christmas tree and garland in my main bath room.... It is going to be a antique corset theme..... I will be hunting for a antique corset and a garter ...... I have a great vintage box with hose in that will work under the small tree. I have my images ready to work with and will just add some items on tree that would add to this look... a great old piece of undergarment lace ... some old hosiery clips added on a tag... I am just starting to think about this..... I always have all my themes ready and working on them as I was in the floral industry and always setting the store for Christmas by 3 week in October.... Old habits are hard to break... I change things around every year as I previously stated but still add in my best of the best favorites....... Got any great ideas... give me a comment..... As you can tell I do not do the traditional Christmas only on my main tree and it has gotten way smaller as I like many small trees with different themes... I have changed my thought process with aging and find a smaller tree... I think I usually have about 7 throughout the house with little antique finds to set the mood....

Images for Brides Tree for Christmas

I have finished more tags for my bridal tree for upcoming Christmas....I also found some rings in the bridal section at joann's and added them to ribbon to lay over the branches for alittle more touch of bling.... The little rings are 1.49 for 12 so will add with little expense..... I am packing my items away as I finish them so come the first of November I will show photos of completed tree.... I just also purchased a antique veil on ebay to work in with the setting......

Tidbit Frame

This week Dawn posted a lovely post on her tidbit box... I don't have a box but I do have a tidbit frame that hangs in my hallway... I add objects that I think I may use for altered art or other little projects. Mainly buttons or buckles... I add and take from it all the time. I like the way it looks and keeps the items ready for use instead of wondering where I stached it....

Vintage Millinery Hat

I visited a antique store yesterday in search of some jnk jewelry but didn't have any luck.. Will have to keep searching...I did find a couple pieces of sheet music for altered art and then I saw this little vintage millinery hat... My plans are for it to go to ebay but I may enjoy it for a couple weeks.... It is a sweet hat and it seems that old millinery seems to be a wanted and valuable

SHABBY BEDROOM VANITY TABLE

I have a couple photos of my shabby bedroom.... Myrna had asked for a couple dressing table displays... This little dressing table is one from the 40's and I bought a prom dress from a goodwill store and used the skirt and lining of the dress for my dressing table skirt. I even managed to use the rosettes and ribbon from the dress. The big bulky wood piece is a old mantle clock minus it's clockworks that I also purchased at a thrift shop... I added a vintage photo where the clock face use to be.. It is a shabby ...chippy piece.... Other items are just objects from antique shoppes and sales.....

Finding your Treasures

Make your own treasures with found objects at a wonderful discount price.... I found several objects all for under 20.00 yesterday at a junk store..... I found this charming glass stemmed dish which is old and a wood shoe stretcher and vintage hankies.... The dish I can change often ... maybe a altered art lady or angel tucked in small glass balls or mica flakes.... The wood shoe block I plan on making a lovely altered art tag and adding on for display... The hankies I will use the monogrammed one on my bridal tree and the others for altered art pieces... Linens such as hankies can boast some fading or expose some frayed edges... this only adds considerable charm to a room......Hidden treasures from a junk shop can offer wonderful new objects for your home... change often and adds new life... How wonderful is that... Go junking.....
